Indorama Ventures Ethylene Cracker Rebuild

When Thailand based and global specialty chemical producer Indorama found themselves facing significant challenges refurbishing a long dormant ethylene cracker in Westlake, LA they turned to SMW Projects to apply their culture of safety and their technical competence in order to complete the refurbishment and debottleknecking of this 440,00 ton per year cracker. The facility, acquired from Occidental Chemical, was idled by Equistar in 2001 and Indorama Ventures has invested over $1 billion in its refurbishment.
When complete this plant will produce up to 420,000 tons per year of ethylene and 20,000 tons per year of propylene from regional shale gas feedstocks.
SMW Projects, Inc. has provided over 225 craft personnel in addition to Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning professionals to complete the project and assist in startup.
SMW Projects has worked over 150,000 manhours on this project without any recordable safety incidents and with a high level of customer satisfaction.
