CLIENT: Arizona Solar One (ASO)

OWNER: Atlantica Yield

PROJECT MANAGER: William McVicar

LOCATION: Gila Bend, AZ

Solana Generating Station is the largest parabolic trough solar power plant in the world and the first U.S. solar plant with molten salt thermal energy storage. This 2,000 acre 280MW power plant provides solar power even after the sun sets through use of proprietary thermal energy storage (TES) technology. When heat exchangers needed to be installed, ASO engaged the multi-disciplinary capabilities of SMW Projects to handle the full range of activities necessary to construct foundations, install piping and equipment and bring these units on-line. From inspection of major equipment in Europe, arranging ocean shipment of major equipment, rail and road transportation across country SMWP met every challenge.

SMWP has provided heavy Civil/Structural, Piping, Mechanical, I&E and Heat Trace construction services.

SMW Projects, Inc. managed a workforce of up to 100 craft personnel and provided support personnel to Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning to complete the project and assist in startup.

SMW Projects has worked over 110,000 manhours on this project without any recordable safety incidents and with a high level of customer satisfaction.
